ABOUT SALLY
Sally’s creative process is inherently linked to the skills and craft of making each piece and her commitment to honest, clear design principles and skilled craftsmanship informs every piece that she makes. The journey from the initial concept to the finished piece is captured in the essence of the materials and the process.
Celebrating beauty in imperfection
Sally’s inspiration is drawn from the beauty and diversity found in natural landscapes and particularly Scotland, her home. Her textural, etched and tactile handmade jewellery evokes thoughts and memories of time, seasons and place.
Intricate, hand, carving techniques, photoetching and creating unique textures are central themes in her work. These processes allow her to translate images and patterns into textural designs on precious metal. Her tool collection includes a number of antique, salvaged hammers sourced from tool sales. Each one creates a unique mark and surface texture, connecting the piece to the individual story of the tool used.
Sally is also a collector of individual and unique gemstones which add a new layer of texture and beauty to her jewellery.
She is committed to using ethically sourced gemstones and her pieces are available in recycled and Fair-trade precious metals.
“My jewellery reflects my lifelong love of making, my passion for traditional jewellery making skills and my interest in art, photography, collecting and nature. Each piece is made to tell a story and to mark a significant occasion.”
Sally’s work has been selected for exhibitions including the Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh, The National Museum of Scotland and Elements Festival and she is a member of the Fairtrade Foundation Goldsmiths Scheme.
Her work can be viewed by appointment at her workshop or via video link, to commission and via selected exhibitions and open studios events.
